More painting with ART 291!
Hey folkies,
The Art 291 crowd was steadily pushing on in as many fronts as our comfy confines
would allow us to. In other words, we pretty much used every inch of floor space in the
classroom! Pictures will show that we were working on the background of our George
Mikan composition, our capstone pieces, and later on we some design work for icons at
the top of the Black Student Union composition. No more tracing, all painting. (Yay!)
Students are learning about design and design strategy. As it is the mid-term, this
week they will be submitting their first thoughts in collage for the 1136 W. Fullerton Bldg.
which is next door to our classroom. In the end students will be composing and
designing for this space. You can see the drawing for that building along with todayās
photos. They will also learn how much their design would cost, so that they can do this
kind of thing on their own.
I hear students say how therapeutic doing āgroupā painting can be. They gather in
groups doing common works, like drawing circles for the back ground of Mikan. As they
are doing these tasks they end up talking a lot about what is going in their lives. You
may say itās a contemporary version of a āquilting beeā. A great way to get to know
others in the class!
