Dedication Saturday, 10.13.18

It was the most ideal of days. Early Fall, a sunny day, crisp and cool. I wore really good cowboy stuff, (as I do for all formal dedications) and I was more than comfortable. There was a nice crowd, close to 100 or so. All there to hear the stories George Mikan, told by Dave Leitao and Dave Corzine. They were there to hear more about the 64 E. Lake building and our Football program. Thad Dohrn did a great job telling the stories of how our Demons faired over the years. And the fact that we’ve been ‘Undefeated Since 1938’! Always competitive, and sometimes beating the odds like at Texas Tech. 95 degrees, on the road, and out manned at 28 to 70 players. Or when they tied the Illini, and were undefeated in 1934.

But the best part of the dedication was when we gathered around the BSU pillar. There we listened to Francine Soluinas. The attendees were really taken by not only Francine’s stature, but her poise in reflecting the struggles of fifty years ago. All of the themes depicted on the pillars are worthy themes. And they are part of DePaul’s story. Today, the halfway point of this project….the BSU pillar gave me a new purpose as to why I am doing this project. A real response to critics.

Jessica Freeman has some great pictures of the day. Many thanks to her and her continuing contributions to this website.
